the United States the term “cottage” means a small cozy dwelling, typically
in rural location.
In Canada the term "cottage" has no reference to size at all and instead
refers to a vacation/summer home near a body of water.
In Western Canada this is called a "cabin", in Quebec a "chalet", and a "camp" in Northern Ontario, New Brunswick and the US states of Maine, Vermont, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire and Northern New York.
